‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the day after Christmas
All I got were new socks,
Hey, I don’t worry
They’re worth more than my stocks.

‘Twas the night before Christmas, I come in from the barn,
All the stock has been bedded, they’re doin’ no harm
Just a bit of hard cider and a warm supper to savor
Then it’s Jack on the phone, his cow’s in breech labor.

(This reader decided to go with a different tune: O’ Christmas Tree.)
O’ Bale of Hay! O’ Bale of Hay!
You are so expensive;
O’ Bale of Hay! O’ Bale of Hay!
You are so expensive;
I can’t believe how much you cost,
And during the summer, how much we lost.
O’ Bale of Hay! O’ Bale of Hay!
You are so expensive.

‘Twas the night before Christmas,
All is silent and still, so ’til the morning dawns, we will stay.
For not even the donkey dare bray, nor pony to neigh, not even the goats to stray,
on this most holy of nights, dare I say?
Jesus is the reason for the season!

Mrs. Michael Grate
Salem, Ohio

‘Twas the night before Christmas, I thought of the past,
It seems like the years have just gone by so fast,
The kids we bought toys for have kids of their own,
So I enjoy my Christmas on memories alone.
