Gardening in space? Astronauts on the International Space Station have been there, done that.

American astronaut Scotty Kelly has grown lettuce and flowers so far, ABC News reports. On earth, a NASA team is working on a control experiment that will help to better inform astronauts’ space gardening.

The source says that longer missions to space in the future will require astronauts to grow some of their own food.
