ASHLAND, Ohio —The Mapleton FFA sent a team to the 2009 State Animal Behavior and Welfare Contest at the state fairgrounds in Columbus April 21. The team consisted of Jerry Mencl, Garrett Canfield, Hillary Krause, Shelby Emmons and coach Jared Wynn. Mencl led the team placing sixth overall. The team was fifth in the contest

Keith Burgett and sons Phillip and Bryan have built sort of an Angus dynasty since they bought their first cattle in 1984. They now raise about 350 head, consisting mostly of purebred Angus and some crosses.

JEFFERSON, Ohio — The Prime Bovine 4-H club met Jan. 25. Members discussed the December steer tagging, which included 64 beef steers and 15 dairy steers.
