War Cake

    Ingredients:

    • 2 cups brown sugar
    • 2 cups + 2 tsp. hot water
    • 1 Tbsp. shortening
    • 3/4 cup raisins
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 3 cups flour
    • 1 tsp. baking soda

    Directions:

    1. Mix 2 cups brown sugar, 2 cups hot water and 1 Tablespoon solid shortening in a pan.
    2. Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup raisins, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Boil 5 minutes.
    3. When COLD, add 3 cups flour and 1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 2 teaspoons hot water.
    4. Bake at 350°-375° in a greased bundt for 45 minutes or a greased tube pan for 1 hour.
