    Chewy Brownie Cookies

    Ingredients:

    • ⅔ cup vegetable shortening
    • 1½ cups packed brown sugar
    • 1 Tbsp. water
    • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
    • ⅓ cup baking cocoa
    • ¼ tsp. baking soda
    • ½ tsp. salt
    • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
    • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, pecans, optional

    Directions:

    1. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening, brown sugar, water and vanilla. Beat in the eggs.
    2. Combine flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture and beat just until blended.
    3. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired.
    4. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
    5. Bake at 375 F for 7 to 9 minutes; do not overbake. Cool 2 minutes before removing to wire racks.
