    Cheese Sauce for Haystacks

    Ingredients:

    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 4 cups milk
    • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
    • 3/4 tsp. salt or to taste
    • 1 Tbsp. cheddar cheese powder, optional
    • 1/2 lb. Velveeta cheese, cubed

    Directions:

    1. In a 3-quart saucepan, melt butter.
    2. Mix milk, flour and cheddar powder in a blender until smooth.
    3. Add to butter and bring to a boil on medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
    4. Add salt, pepper and Velveeta; stir until smooth. More milk may be added to achieve desired consistency; reheat, but do not boil.
    5. Keep warm until serving time.
    6. Makes 1 1/2-2 quarts.
